| Nokia Normandy aka Nokia X is in India but only with developers |
Nokia Normandy has become a celebrity phone, it makes precise appearances on the internet and gives us timely peep through its UI by means of leaks. This phone made its way to India last week, it is reported that Nokia has already started seeding the Normandy smartphone (aka Nokia X) to a handful of developers in India.
Nokia’s current move hints that the phone is specifically made for India, the early screen shot leaks of the Nokia Normandy showed some Indian names in the call log and messages which was a kind of hint that the phone will first debut in India. People like the build quality and battery life that Nokia’s phones give and thus we can expect a grand welcome of this smartphone in India.
The Nokia Normandy will run forked version of AOSP (Android Open Source Project) which is free globally and anyone can use it but without the Google services, remember the Lenovo K900 smartphone which did not have Google services on board including the Playstore? This one is going to be just like that, it will not have Google Playstore. Thus Nokia is giving out the device to developers to make sure that it has plenty of apps by the time it comes to the market. The Apps will be modified with minor changes in the codes and will be put on to Asha-On-Linux store (AoL store), which is Nokia’s own store for apps and games.
The Nokia Normandy is likely to be priced below Rs 6,000 and the ideal time for launch is rumored to be during the IPL season. While you go and book tickets for the IPL matches we wait here for the launch of Nokia’s first Android smartphone.
